Diemelsee-Adorf 2009
von Romina Huber
This year I made my first workcamp-experiences in Adorf, Germany and I would like to tell you the most interesting aspects. I attended a trinational camp with people aged between 16 and 23. The days before the workcamp startet were fierced, but in a positive way. I was very excited because it was the first time that I was apart of my parents for three weeks. But this was no problem, because I found a second family in the people of my group. Our habitation was great; we slept on beds in a gym, cooked in a big kitchen and ate in a nice dinningroom. Besides, we could use the sports ground of a school and we got tabletennisboards to play in our gym. The people living in the suburb where our location was, were very courteous, they gave us bikes to drive to our work or to other places.
In my opinion the work was easy and we had much fun. The theme of the workcamp was “Raus aufs Land”-“Go out to the land “ and it contained environmental and renovation work. There were three participant - groups who had to work at another place every week and because of that there was no boredom. We had to clean paths on a mine and on the Diemelsee (-Diemellake), cut trees or repair the floor and colour doors in a chapel.
However there was not only work. We had also to cook and to clean our “house”. Every day two people stayed at home, bought ingredients for the meal and prepared it. I can say that my favourite work was to cook, because everybody did it in a special way and you got to know meals you never ate before. No matter if it was Spanish, French or German, it tasted great.
We have been a great group, one person completed the other. The integration was awesome, I didn’t think that I would have so much fun with the oldest persons although I was the youngest girl. The adviser organized very varied activities, like goin to the Diemellake, canoing, horseriding, bowling, going to the swimmingpool, barbecuing, visiting cities and many other things. The choise was great and there was something for everybody. We also talked about our life, our expectances, fears… We played games exchanged books and went out together. In doing those activities we got to know each other and ourself better and in the end there were many new friendsships.
When I look back at this time now, I can say that it was a great decision. I have much contact to the people right now and I will visit some of them the next time. I can only advise everybody to attend a workcamp, because otherwise you miss something in your life.
