Workcamp in Deutschland 2008

Dortmund-Eichlinghofen 2008

von Irina Reta

My name is Irina. I’m from Ukraine. Last summer I took part in volunteer project. It was in Germany. My camp was located in Dortmund. It is called Eichlinghofen. It’s social centre. And we helped to look after kids. Our main task was to help to cook and create activities for kids. Our volunteer team consisted of 9 people. We represented Ukraine, Turkey, Japan, South Korea and Finland. It was really international and intercultural project!!

This summer in Eichlinghofen kidscamp was equipped as a mediaeval village. We lived in tents, cooked mediaeval food and all of us were dressed in ancient costumes (kids, volunteers and workers of centre). It was really very nice! For volunteers it was wonderful experience to know German culture and German history. We played with kids and helped them to make fun!!!

When I was going to Germany I worried about many things... (accommodation, people, relationships between volunteers). But after I’ve come  I felt myself like at  home. Team leaders were amazing! I won’t to say THANK all of them (Angelika, Roy, Monika). They made wonderful atmosphere in our group. I feel myself free and comfortable. They helped us to understand each other (because we were from really different countries and had different point of views on many things). They organized several excursions in Germany and another European’s countries.

I was impressed by worker of this centre! All those people really love kids and enjoy their job. They were very friendly with us. In general I felt myself in this camp and in Germany very comfortable. I found new friends from many countries and got to know Germany. And I think it was the best time in my life!!!!
