Workcamp in Deutschland - Raubling 2010

Amazing Workcamp

von Dominika aus der Slowakei

Workcamp in Raubling was my second workcamp and I must say that I liked it much more than the first one. Mostly because of the excellent organisation of the whole event as well as numerous activities that we were involved in (and what is very important – almost all of them were for free for us – and for that I would like to thank all members of Raubling community as well as to IJGD in general).

Accommodation and the environment

In our 17-day workcamp (we had 14 days of regular working time and 3 days for travelling, but with possibility to use facilities in Raubling) we lived in sports centre in the centre of very small village called Raubling. We slept in a gym, but despite that, it was really very comfortable, because we used mats to sleep on. Other rooms in accommodation were excellently furnished and equipped, so cooking and cleaning them was a real pleasureJ.

Work

We were working every working day (except when it was raining) from approx 9 a.m. to 2 or 3 p.m. On the first day of the camp we were given bicycles, which we used for transportation to the swamps. It took about 20-25 min by bike to place were we worked. We worked in the middle of swamps and our task was to build wooden path which should serve as a “tour” path for tourists, who would like to learn why the swamps are so important and should be preserved. The work was not demanding at all and I personally learned lots of useful things which I can use later when building something at home.

Free time

As I already mentioned, we spent our free time in many different ways. After work, during working days we went swimming and having fun to the lake nearby or to the swimming pool or we made bike trips (because bicycles were at our disposal during the whole camp) to bigger town called Rosenheim. We also visited Chiemsee (Herreninsel by ferry), Thermo wellness centre, beer fest, garden exhibition, we made hiking trips to surrounding area, we prepared BBC and some of us slept outside in the swamp that night. Perhaps the most unforgettable experience was jumping to the mud in the swamp and fighting with the “mud” balls and afterwards spending minimum 30 min in shower to get rid of the mud! In the evenings except playing games and talking a lot, we organized some events such as salsa workshop, parties, carnival, cultural night and many others. During weekends and the last three days we made trips further for example to castle Neuschwanstein, Salzburg, Munich and others.

People

There were 16 of us in the camp including 2 excellent camp leaders from Germany. People there came all around the world: from Slovakia, Czech Rep., Ukraine, Poland, Japan, Turkey, Germany and Russia. They were all unforgettable and I would like to thank them for making me smile all the time and sharing their experiences with me. I would also like to thank people from community as well as our working supervisor Gerhard, for great support, patience and help they gave as throughout all camp. I will never forget you, people!

I recommend you to participate in 5-star camp in Raubling 2011 J and I hope you will have at least as much fun as I had!
