STREET CHILDREN PROJECT

Description of the project:
Located in Colonial Quito, these wonderful project benefits low income children who work in the streets, and children and adolescents whose parents cannot give them total attention in their homes. The project helps children providing a safe place where the children can do homework, watch TV, play table soccer, and to have lunch.
Children and adolescents in age of risk are assisted by the staff of the program and volunteers; they are also assisted by a psychologist provided by the program.
In this project, the volunteer has the opportunity to look for the children in the streets with the “Educator”, making their work directly in the streets, visiting the families to know why the children abandoned their homes, why the parents can not protect their children.
The program has several centers where the children can play, to make their homework; volunteers assist to these centers, helping the children, the staff of the center.
In this program the volunteers are responsible to assist the children with their homework, and to make recreation activities, to visit other centers in other provinces with the children.
Volunteering is from Monday to Friday, weekends are free to know the country, to rest, or just to clean the clothes or the room.
Accommodation and food is provided at the Foundation’s house in Quito or in family host.

HELPING IN A NURSERY

Description of the project:
The Daycare centre is located in the southeast of Quito, children whose mothers work on the streets, or are domestic servants are admitted in this project. Children from 1 to 12 years old are assisted in this site, volunteers can participate as teachers’ aid teaching the children to write their first letters, to learn the colors, numbers in Spanish Language, to draw, to paint, to play and to sing.
Volunteering is from Monday to Friday from 08:00 am to 16:00pm, weekends off.
Accommodation and food: Provided at the Foundation’s house in Quito or in family hosts.
Placement fee: 320, 00 Euros/ or its equivalent in dollars, paid maximum in the third day of your arrival

EDUCATION PROJECTS IN THE THREE REGIONS

Description of the project:
The volunteers will teach English or other subjects like computers and environment in local schools. They will elaborate tests and exams. Make a goals report of the children to the Principal of the school. Teach the importance of recycling to create environmentally concerned minds. Assist in any kind of task at the school of children with special needs. Teach how to elaborate items with recycle paper. Write a report of what the volunteer has taught in order to transmit this information to their successor volunteer. Write a weekly report to the School’s Principal, following the same schedule as the rest of the teachers.
The volunteer will assist the teachers taking care of the school’s equipment; it means no let the students to use the computers with no supervision.
The volunteers will discipline the students during her/his class, if any problem arises; they are required to inform the Principal and the Foundation’s Coordinator.
To execute environmental practices with students, making recycle and cultivations is possible just if the schools have areas to be used for this purpose.

Description of the project:
Located in the south of Quito, this school for mentally challenged children offers programs to prepare them for their future and how to become independent individuals. Work consists in assisting the teachers taking care of the children, to play and teach them new games, the volunteers also will help the children in the lunch time, helping them to learn how eat by themselves.
Volunteers will work from Monday to Friday from 08:00 am to 13:00pm, afternoons free and weekends off.

VOLUNTEERING IN THE INDIAN RESERVES

Description of the project:
In the Amazon there are communities and ecological reserves which are protected by the natives where volunteers can help with reforestation, agriculture, environmental protection and community tasks. This program is dedicated to true nature lovers who want to experience an eco- adventure and who would be willing to adapt to the modest accommodation offered by these communities.
The volunteers will be staying at the native’s chozas (houses), its infrastructure is very simple; there are latrines near the houses. The kitchen is very simple, three pieces of wood and a pot hanging from a piece of branch which is supported by a rope, is all they need to cook, they don't have stoves.
Our destination is located in the Amazon near to one of the Shuar communities. This is a very beautiful natural area, an ideal placement for volunteers who can adapt to live with very limited comfort.
Access to water, showers, electricity or telecommunications may be unavailable. Volunteers can enjoy swimming in the nearby river. The inhabitants collect rain water, to prepare their food. Their basic diet includes papayas, bananas, and bitter cane, cooked by the locals with leaves, noodles, tuna fish, and a special kind of fried bread made with flour.
The volunteers have the opportunity to learn about jungle thanks of the “Jungle school” here they learn how to catch birds or any kind of animal of the Forrest, fishing, travel by canoe, jungle food, night walks through the jungle, Medicinal plants cultivations.
When there is the opportunity the volunteers can help in the communities or in the Indian Reserves, in the constructions of houses, cleaning of pads, in the construction of latrines, making a development project in benefit of the community.
There is no current water but we collect fresh water from a spring up water in the project, no communications no internet, but you can accede this service traveling two hours by bus to Macas, (the project is trying to get a radio for communication with Quito).

RESCUE CENTERS

Description of the project:
This program is located in the Amazon; their main objective is to protect the wild life of the region, taking care of the rescued animals which lived in captivity and semi-captivity until it is time for their re-introduction to their natural habitat, but many times there is not chance to be reintegrated due to health problems or because the animals lived so long captives. Many of the animals at the Rescue Center were victims of illegal traffic or were abandoned by their owners or lived like pets; these are confiscated by the Police by the order of the Environment’s Department.
The activities of the volunteers start very early, with the preparation of the food which be delivered to the animals by the volunteers or by the staff of the Center. The volunteers are responsible of feeding the animals, to clean their cages, to clean the pads, to built new cages, to assist the veterinary in the cures of the ill animals. Work is manually.
The volunteers learn about the Amazonian animal’s life, and about other animals from other habitats that were recuperated by the Environmental Police, after a week the volunteers are able to become guides of the Rescue Centre, helping to the centre, incrementing the economic resources for food, medicines and maintenance of the center.
This program is ideal for those who want to have an experience with animals, and who want to support in benefit of the Ecuadorian Fauna which the majority of them are in danger extinction; the experience gives rich environmental knowledge which gives the volunteers and locals the opportunity to value which still exist in the planet.
This program offers: lodging in a house only for volunteers with a kitchen, dining room, living room, and a phone cabin to receive calls, lodging is in single, double and triple bedrooms, breakfast and lunch, are included but dinner is not. Volunteers are welcome to prepare their own dinner basic ingredients are available in the kitchen.

For those who are studying Biology, or any kind of environmental professions, we would like to offer them a placement in the Amazon region, we need active and dynamic people, with a good intuition sense, who are able to learn and know the hidden secrets of the Amazon region. We prefer students and lovers of the Biology sciences with knowledge of the forests, reforestation, zoology and ethnology and similar sciences.
The volunteers will make a work like interpreter in the area of touristic influences.
The major part of our passengers are English speaking and all of the groups which go out on a trip inside the forest always are in the company of two persons: the first-one is the local guide, a native person integrated to the community of Quichua San Carlos speaking Quichua and Spanish and the second one is a translator English Spanish (in this case the volunteer).
Work begins at 8:30 am until 13:30 pm, two hours of recess; the program goes on from 15:30 pm until 19:00 pm.
Additionally our company offers to all of our passengers the option of going out at night to observe caimans by canoe, or night walks around the camp for getting to know and listen to the nightlife and its rounds. This activity is voluntary but if one of them decides to realize such a trip the volunteer is obligated to realize it with one or more passengers. This activity has duration of nearly 45 minutes.
Accommodation and food: The volunteers will share a "cabaña” with other volunteers or workers, the house has 4 beds, bathroom and private shower, hot water
