Application via sending organisation: Please note that applications for UVIKIUTA have to be handed in at least 3 months prior to the expected starting date - your application will be handed in to us only after you have joined a preparation seminar with ijgd!
Fees: The fee structure depends on location, duration and type of project. Unless indicated otherwise in the information sheet, the following fee structure will be applicable for the MTV 2011

Please note, minimum stay for mid term volunteering with UVIKIUTA from now on is 10 weeks. Volunteers wishing to stay for a shorter period are advised to join short term (work camp) projects. Maximum stay is 24 weeks, However there is exeption for volunteers wishing to stay longer than 24 weeks.
Starting date: Medium and long term volunteers can arrive to start their project every first Monday of the Month.

UV-MTV/01 Teaching French Language
Location: Chamazi (TEMEKE)

THE PROJECT
French language is part of the Adult Education Project. The project aims at providing an opportunity to young men and women and the community in general to gain skills in foreign languages for their own personal and professional growth. Foreign language skills are expected to help in various areas like further education, employment and entrepreneurship development. This will contribute significantly to the war against poverty, ignorance and disease.
COMMUNITY DESCTRIPTION/LOCATION
The project will take place at UVIKIUTA center within the Eco village,
Located in Chamazi area, Temeke District, about 25km from the center of Dar es Salaam. In the last 15 years, the community was counted as rural area; however the urbanization process which is taking place has made this community to be urban. Immigration of people from various regions of Tanzania has made this area very diverse and rich in terms of culture since people of different tribes and religions are found in the community. There is couple of mosques and churches from various denominations. Most people are employed and work in town, own small businesses, agriculture etc.
TYPE OF WORK
Volunteers will be helping in teaching basic French language in the adult education class. In some cases volunteers would be invited to the local schools to introduce French language.
VOLUNTEER PROFILE
- Age above 18 years
- Fluently in speaking, reading and writing in French
- Volunteers wishing to practice their French language are as well invited

WORKING SCHEDULE AND VACATION
Volunteers will be working for 6 hours a day, five days. Saturdays, Sunday and public holidays volunteers will not be working. If volunteer stays for more than four weeks, half way of the project she/he will have 4 days free to travel around.
ACCOMODATION
Volunteers will be accommodated at the Youth center. Volunteers with special needs like seniors (From the age of 50 and above), families, physically challenged will have special accommodation arrangement which fits there basic needs provided that we are informed in advance.
FOOD
Food will be provided at the Youth center.
UV-MTV/02 Child care and Nursery School- (Lole Kilimanjaro)
Location: Lole (KILIMANJARO)

THE PROJECT
Lole day care and nursery school is a project under Lole Parish of the Evangelical Lutheran church. It provides early child education for the children in the area to prepare them to join primary schools. Kids who attend this school are expected to gain Spiritual growth and maturity, positive social development, enhanced social skills, good character formation, improved academic performance, and confidence. The school has about 50 children coming from the families around and the nearby villages. The school does not have any funding from State and it operates privately.
COMMUNITY DESCTRIPTION/LOCATION
Lole-Marera is one the villages lied under the sloop of the mount Kilimanjaro which is the highest in Africa. The community is rural and the inhabitants are mostly farmers. The main crops are coffee, Bananas, maize and various fruits. Being close to the mountain, the area is ever green through out the year. The place is very rich due to its culture and their lot to see in around in terms of culture and nature. About 1km from the school, is Kilimanjaro National Park. The village is located about 50km from Moshi Municipality which is the closest big town and the capital of the town.
TYPE OF WORK
Volunteers will be involved in the following activities:
- Assisting in teaching English, math’s, writing and drawings.
- Playing various sports and games with Children
- Preparing various competitions
- Teaching music
- Visiting children at home
VOLUNTEER PROFILE
- Volunteer has to be minimal 18 years old

WORKING SCHEDULE AND VACATION
The school runs for at least six hours (Morning) everyday Monday to Friday. Saturday, Sunday and Public holidays the school is closed. Volunteers who will be working in the area they will be closed to the most tourist attraction in Tanzania e.g Serengeti, Ngorongoro National parks among others.
ACCOMODATION
Volunteers will be hosted in the host families. Rooms will be available to individual volunteers. Volunteers with special needs like seniors/ aged, families and physically challenged will have special arrangements for their accommodations.
FOOD Food will be provided at the project and in the host families.
UV-MTV/03 Development through sports (Chamazi-TEMEKE)

THE PROJECT
Sports for community action is a project established by UVIKIUTA with the aim of providing opportunity for children and young people in the surrounding communities to gain various skills be aware of development issues affecting their beings. The project sees sports as an ideal mechanism and engages children and youth. In this project sports is defined as traditional games, soccer, basket ball, volleyball, dance etc. Sports is an enabler and time occupier for otherwise Idle young people also it provide extra activities for children after school hours for their physical growth. The project uses the value of sports as vehicle for leadership, development, empowerment, bringing gender inequalities, improving education successes, enhancing economic opportunities and social inclusion of marginalized groups including girls, disabled and youths. These values include team work, respect, decision making, volunteerism, integrity, self esteem, conflict management, and communication skills as vital life skills.

TYPE OF WORK
Organizing and teaching various sports, games, songs and dances to the groups of Children and young people. Children here are defined as those from the age of 6-15 while young people will be the older ones.
VOLUNTEER PROFILE
Age from 18 and above, female or male, independent and ability to work under less supervision and sometimes pressure.
SKILSS REQUIRED
No skills required but volunteer should have interest in sports, working with young people and children. They will be groups of up to 20 young people and children to be organized everyday.
WORKING SCHEDULE AND VACATION
Volunteers will be working for 3 hours every afternoons Monday to Friday, while on Saturdays they will be working for 8hours. Sundays and public holidays volunteers will be off.
ACCOMODATION
Volunteers will be hosted at the youth hostel but there is a possibility for host families. Volunteers with special needs like seniors/aged, physical challenged and families will have special accommodation arrangements if required.

THE PROJECT
The Chamazi Orphanage center is a registered Trust, not for profit organisation established by the local community members to care for the children who has lost their parents. The center provides food and accommodation for the children from the age of zero to eighteen supporting them with other needs like education, health care etc. The orphanage has about hundred children supported by staff lives at the same compound.
COMMUNITY DESCTRIPTION/LOCATION
The center is located in Chamazi area, Temeke District, about 25km from the center of Dar es Salaam. The urbanization process has made this community to be very diverse in terms of culture since people of different tribes and religions are found in the community. Volunteers will be involved in the following activities:
- Nursing the babies
- Preparing meals
- General cleaning
- Helping children with their school home work assignments
- Assisting staff to organize extra time activities like games and sports
- Agriculture and gardening activities (Working with the older kids)
- Any other duties which might arise in the center

UV-MTV/06 Co-education secondary school (Msongola-ILALA)
Location: Msongola (ILALA)
MEETING POINT/DAY

THE PROJECT
Msongola is a Co –education secondary. Started in 2007. The total number of students present are 600 where by boys are 490 and girls are 110, the school consists of form one up to form four with the age range of 14-18. The school has 11 teachers only offering several subjects which includes Geography, History, English, Mathematics, Chemistry, Biology, Kiswahili, physics, Commerce, Bookkeeping and Civics. The project is aiming at providing support to the available teacher to improve academic performance in the school.
COMMUNITY DESCTRIPTION/LOCATION
Msongola is a community located in rural area, near Dar es salaam; it is fast grown settlement to the city expansion. The inhabitants are farmers, growing coconuts, cashew nuts, various fruits and vegetable, poultry and own small businesses. The area is a bit remote in comparison to other areas outside Dar es Salaam.
TYPE OF WORK
Volunteers are expected to assist the existing academic and general staff of the school on the following activities.
- Improve oral English for form one students: Students need to master English Language so that they can be follow the subjects which are all taught in English.
- Assist in teach remedial classes (Slow learners): Volunteers will teach/assist the students from higher classes who are struggling with English language on their extra time.
- Teaching Assistant: Assisting teachers in teaching other subjects indicated above. (This will depend on the skills which the volunteer has)

THE PROJECT
Chamazi Community Library is located in a semi-urban area located 25km south of Dar es Salaam and began through a collective effort between UVIKIUTA-Tanzanian, Africa Community Technical Service (ACTS), and Trinity Western University in Canada. UV-MTV/09 Pre- Primary education (Urban- Mtwara)

THE PROJECT
Salem is most fabulous nursery and primary school in Mtwara township that is dedicated to provide quality education to children of age between 2-14 years. The School is English medium that has a team of committed local and International teachers who always strive to ensure that pupils get incomparable quality education to prepare them for the future.
COMMUNITY DESCTRIPTION/LOCATION
Mtwara is located in the Southern part of Tanzania. In the east part of the region there is Indian ocean while the South is Mozambique. It takes about 8 Hours by bus from Dar es Salaam to this destination.
TYPE OF WORK
Volunteers will be involved in the following activities:
- Assisting staff on teaching English language, mathematics, and other subjects which they might be comfortable with.
- Assisting staff to organized fun and learning activities for the children
- Teach and assist the students ho are struggling with English language (Slow learners) on their free time

UV-MTV/10 Development Education (Chamazi-TEMEKE)

THE PROJECT
Development education is an education process aiming at increasing awareness and understanding of the rapidly changing, interdependent and unequal world in which we live. It seeks to engage people in analysis, reflections and action for local and global citizenship and participation. It is about supporting people in understanding, and in acting to transform the social, cultural, political and economic structures which affect their lives and others at personal, community and International levels. Under this program UVIKIUTA has various projects:
- International volunteers projects (Workcamps) which runs through out the year across the country.
- Youth leaders in Action which is an exchange program between Tanzania, Canada and Kenya. It is a program of 6 months offering opportunities to the young people to spend half of the program volunteering in their home country and the second half in the second country with their counterparts.
- The organisation is hosting about 250 volunteers coming from across Africa, Europe, Asia, North and South America every year as part of this program.

- Meeting volunteers at the Airport and Bus/Railways stations when coming to the project.
- Registration and other logistics for the volunteers like arranging accommodation, transport etc.
- Summarizing and analyzing the evaluation reports.
- Documentation of the project activities including filming and photographic.
- Visiting volunteers while on projects
- Editing program documents
- Developing proposals for program funding

The work will require a lot of traveling and volunteer could be busy through out the week. Maximum working hours per week will be 35, a week free in every three months.

Communal accommodation with other volunteers in the projects. Depending on the nature of the place of work, volunteer might stay in families, guest house, hotel etc.

THE PROJECT
Msongola Children’ home is a registered Trust, not for profit organisation established by the local community members to care for the children in difficult situations. It offers food, accommodation, education and safer environment to live to 30 children from the age of 2- 16 at a moment. The children are supported by two staff. This project is aiming at providing bright future for the children by providing the access to their basic needs including education.
COMMUNITY DESCTRIPTION/LOCATION
The children’ home is located in the center of Msongola village about 60km South of Dar es Salaam. The village is fast grown settlement due to the city expansion. The inhabitants are farmers, growing coconuts, cashew nuts, various fruits and vegetable, poultry and own small businesses. The area is a bit remote in comparison to other areas outside Dar es Salaam.
TYPE OF WORK
Volunteers will be involved in the following activities:
- Help the children to get ready for school
- Help the children with their lessons and home works
- Assisting staff in preparing meals for children
- Assisting staff in cleaning and washing
- Organize and run extra activities and games with children
- Teach health and sanitation
- Go for sight seeing, pick nicks with children and educational visits and cultural visits.

- Be 20 years of age and above
- Be interested in working with children
- Be patient and committed
- Be creative and flexible to work in a environment with limited resources

WORKING SCHEDULE AND VACATION
Volunteers will be working for 6 hours a day, five days. Saturdays, Sunday and public holidays volunteers will not be working. If volunteer stays for more than four weeks, half way of the project she/he will have 4 days free to travel around.
ACCOMODATION
Volunteers will be accommodated at the Youth center. Volunteers with special needs like seniors (From the age of 50 and above), families, physically challenged will have special accommodation arrangement which fits there basic needs.
FOOD
Food will be provided at the Center’s kitchen. Volunteers might be requested sometimes to help on kitchen activities.

THE PROJECT
Women empowerment project is designed to offer opportunity to the young and adult women around Chamazi Community and the area to gain skills useful in their development. This project reflects the sense that, women plays a key role in family and community development, so once empowered and given opportunities they can effect significant change in development.
COMMUNITY DESCTRIPTION/LOCATION
The project will take place at UVIKIUTA center within the Eco village,
Located in Chamazi area, Temeke District, about 25km from the center of Dar es Salaam. In the last 15 years, the community was counted as rural area; however the urbanization process which is taking place has made this community to be urban. Immigration of people from various regions of Tanzania has made this area very diverse and rich in terms of culture since people of different tribes and religions are found in the community. There is couple of mosques and churches from various denominations. Most people are employed and work in town, own small businesses, agriculture etc.
TYPE OF WORK
Volunteers will assist local women on the following activities which might involve classes and workshops.
- Teaching basic English language (Speaking, reading and writing)
- Skills sharing on arts and crafts
- Cooking and home management
- Health and Sanitation
- Workshops of various women development issues in the community and globally.
