Special qualifications required in ALL projects:

  • To have a good knowledge of the Spanish language
  • To have a good knowledge of the English language
  • To have experience in working with children
  • Teaching skills and passion to teach
  • To be responsible
  • To be involved in the community work with heart and mind
  • To have a strong character
  • To have no prejudices
  • To be very patient with the children
  • To involve with heart in the education area with a lot of own creative ideas
  • To be able to accept and work in challenging teaching cirumstances (e.g. lack of material or staff, etc) and trying to find ways for the benefit of the children
  • To have a defined personality (the volunteers have to teach groups of students with at least 25 up to 50 students)
  • To be punctual in their work! School starts at 7:30am, thus volunteers need to get up early, in order to have breakfast and travel to school.
  • To respect the new culture with all their customs and to live in such a culture in (very) simple conditions
  • To be willing to change one's habits of life
  • The volunteer will go to the schools well dressed, well combed, it is forbidden to attend with sandals, small t-shirts, or short pants.
  • To offer help in the afternoons for those children - sometimes including other people of the community - who have learning problems
  • To dedicate a lot of time to the school children
  • To accept the school's itineraries, e.g. Christmas time, Independence Day, Povince Day, Canton Day, school holidays
  • To adapt to family rules: in Ecuador families are very protective over young people
  • To integrate into the values and rules of the host families and the host culture
  • To maintain their rooms clean and in order
  • To share home cleaning tasks

Special qualifications recommended in all projects:

  • The volunteer is well prepared for the hosting country and the hosting project
  • Not to drink alcohol during the working days
  • To be organized and dedicated with the entrusted tasks
  • Easy adaptation with Ecuadorian food 
  • To have skills and dynamics to work with children
  • To be able to improve any kind of work with children, or adults
  • The volunteer can not just be an observer s/he must be part of the solutions (in many cases the volunteers affirm they can not work with children because there is not a library, didactic materials or plays which the volunteers can work with)
  • The volunteers need some skills to identify the level of knowledge or limitation of the students
  • To be honest and sincere, with all the people involved in order to have a friendly atmosphere

Description of the tasks of the volunteer in all projects:

  • To give the opportunity to the students to ameliorate their learning with English (and Computers lessons if needed) (grade 1 - 10)
  • To “wake the interest of students” in order to look for new techniques of learning
  • To incite the students to participate out of the scholar centres
  • To provide opportunities for the maturing and character building of the volunteers, very often volunteers gain unique learning experiences that are no longer available in the traditional centres of learning
  • To give the opportunity in two ways (German volunteers –Ecuadorian students) to learn one from another
  • To organize extra-curricular activities using the motivation of the students
  • The volunteer will make and prepare didactic materials for English lessons, Environmental teaching, or any subject which is taught in benefit of the school
  • The volunteer will make a report of every grade where s/he teaches for the benefit of following volunteers
  • The volunteer always gives a monthly report to the Principal of the school
  • Will work with the same schedules of the rest of teachers or workers depending on the project
  • To attend the Seminars in order to evaluate the Program “weltwaerts”
  • To give a written report after 3 and 9 months of the placement and at the end of the placement
  • The actual tasks can vary according to the projects current needs and depend on the volunteers own initiative
