VIMEX-00: Office Support Organisation for Voluntary Service in Mexico - VIMEX


The volunteer is working in the office of the partner organisation VIMEX

2. Number of volunteers: 1

3. Description of the local project:
VIMEX is founded in 1985 as  an independent, non-religious, non-profit organisation. It is organizing Workcamps in Mexico and is supervising several places of assignments of Mid- and Longterm Voluntary Services. Volunteers from all over the world shall get the opportunity to experience Mexican culture and reality. VIMEX also sends Mexican volunteers abroad.
4. Field of work: Work with children and adolescents, Education
5. Special qualifications required:
Experience in the field of voluntary services; good language skills (written and oral) in English and Spanish; Basic skills of Word, Excel, Outlook, Internet; willing to travel in México, pedagogical skills, able to work independently
Special qualifications recommended:
Experience in public relations
6. Description of the tasks of the volunteer:
• Assisting in organizing different programs (workcamps, longterm-/midterm volunteer services)
• Writing program sheets 
• Helping during workcamp seminars and possibly leading workcamps
• Support in public relations (design campaigns, presentations)
• Assistance in acquisition of projects and places of assignments
• Correspondence with partner organisations
• Data administration (website incl.)

 


VIMEX-01: Support of Local Environmental Organization (Focus IT)

The volunteer is supporting a local environmental organization in office work, informatics and public relations.

1. Project-host: ECOSTA    Place: Tututepec     Region: Oaxaca

2. Number of volunteers: 1

Starting-Date: May or September

3. Description of the local project:
ECOSTA Yutu Cuii was founded in 1993. “Yutu Cuii” means the “Green Tree” and the name reflects the program of the organisation. The main working fields of ECOSTA are: protection of environment and natural resources as well as rural development. The main issues the organization is working on are reforestation, protection of local flora and fauna, nutrition and health. For ECOSTA it is very important to raise ecological awareness in the local communities therefore they organize campaigns and workshops.

4. Field of work: Education, IT

5. Special qualifications required:

  • Interest in environmental an IT- issues
  • Good knowledge in computer literacy (excel, power point, word, digital image processing, corel draw, gimp, web design)
  • Flexibility, creativity, patience

Special qualifications recommended:

  • Teaching skills and environment knowledge

6. Description of the tasks of the volunteer:

  • Support the organization with informatics
  • Train staff members in computer applications (excel, word, power point, digital image processing)
  • Support office work (design flyers and presentations, database maintenance, public relations)
  • Support educational work
  • Assistance in giving workshops on environmental topics

The actual tasks can vary according to the projects current needs and depending on the volunteers own initiative.

 

 

VIMEX-02: Work With Street Children

Educative Model that offers to the street children alternatives in order to end living on the streets.

1. Project-host: Fundación Pro Niños de la Calle
Place: Mexico City Region: Distrito Federal

2. Number of volunteers: 2

Starting date: May or September

3. Description of the local project:
Pro-Street Children is an institution with the following mission: “Understandig and assisting children and teenagers living in the streets, accompanying them in a gradual process which allows them to choose a different option of life”. Pro-Niños gives assistence to boys between the age of 10 and 17 years how are living on the streets of Mexico City for long time. To accomplish our mission, the kids  - or “los chavos” as they call them - participate in a process consisting of three different steps, designed to help them decide on their own, that the street is no longer the place in which they want to live. The different stages are: 1. Street work; 2. Day Center; 3.Alternative Options of Life.

* Interest in the work with children and adolescents * Commitment to the work of the organization * Passion for the work of the institution * High degree of solidarity and interest in the service * Be creative and active * Have a deep social conscience * Teamwork * High tolerance to frustration

6. Description of the tasks of the volunteer:
The volunteers collaborate in the educative area from Monday to Friday from 8:00 in the morning to 5:00 in the afternoon, supporting our educators in the direct work with the “chavos”. The actual tasks can vary according to the projects current needs and depend on the volunteers own initiative.

VIMEX-03: Leisure Time Activities and Teaching in Centre of Culture and Arts (Casa del Sol)

Supporting a local cultural centre by giving workshops on different topics and English classes

1. Project-host: Casa de la Cultura “Casa del Sol”
Place: Villa de Tamazulapam del Progreso Region: Oaxaca

2. Number of volunteers: 1

Starting-date: May or September

3. Description of the local project where the volunteer will work:
The “Casa del Sol” is a cultural centre in the community of Tamazulapam where a variety of activities is offered. Mostly young people from the community are invited to take part. They take classes in art, music, languages etc. Additionally the volunteer is invited to support classes (English, Computation, Arts etc.) in nearby schools or kindergardens (depending on the need of the institutions and the qualifications of the volunteer).

4. Field of work: Education, Work with children and youth

5. Special qualifications required:

Experience in working with children and youth, pedagogical skills, creativity, develop own ideas, flexibility, to be proactive

Special qualifications recommended:
Pedagogical Training or studies

6. Description of the tasks of the volunteer:

Support the work of the center; Conduct workshops depending on own abilities and qualifications (languages, artes, sports etc.); Especially English classes are in demand

VIMEX-08: Support of Local Environmental Organization (Focus Environmental Education)

The volunteer is supporting a local environmental organization to raise awareness for environmental issues among the local people.

3. Description of the local project where the volunteer will work:

  • Support the educational work of the organization
  • Conduct and give workshops on environmental issues
  • Develop material for educational work
  • Support different projects of the organization (for example: traditional plants and medicine, ecotourism)

VIMEX-11: Assistance in Orphanage for Boys "Casa Hogar Niños de Eugenia"


The volunteer supports the daily work in the orphanage by taking care of the children and organizing extracurricular activities.
1. Project-host: Casa Hogar Niños de Eugenia Place: Yautepec, Region: Morelos
2. Number of volunteers: 1
Starting-Date: May or September
3. Description of the local project:
The orphanage is sponsored by the foundation “Fundación Niños de Eugenia”. It is founded in 2008 and has a capacity for about 50 children. The actual number of children living there can differ. The children, who are parentless, left by their parents and/or have experiencd abuse, are about 2-13 years old. The children can live there till their 18th birthday. The orphanage offers psychological and social educational supply. The children go to school regularly.
4. Field of work: Work with children and adolescents, Education
5. Special qualifications required:
The volunteer should have experience in and enjoy working with children. The volunteer should be a role model to the children and work responsibly. The volunteer should be a creative person. The orphanage is under the supervision of nuns. The accommodation is within the orphanage (the volunteer has his or her own room). The volunteer should be prepared for that.
Special qualifications recommended:
Students of social education, psychology and kindergarten teachers are especially welcome
6. Description of the tasks of the volunteer:
Depends on the volunteer’s interest:
• Organizing extracurricular activities (Games, Painting, Singing, Dancing etc.)
• Homework tutoring and coaching
• Company at (educational) trips
• Support with hygiene (brushing teeth, taking showers etc.)
• Helping to dress
• Helping in the kitchen and serving food
• Taking care of children that are not (yet) going to school because of their age, illness etc.
• Supporting special programs for the kids

 


VIMEX-12: Assistance in Orphanage for Girls "Casa Hogar Niñas de Eugenia"


The volunteer supports the daily work in the orphanage by taking care of the children and helping with organizing the daily routine.
1. Project-host: Casa Hogar Niñas de Eugenia Place: Tepoztlán, Region: Morelos
2. Number of volunteers: 1
Starting-Date: May or September
3. Description of the local project:
The orphanage is sponsored by the foundation “Fundación Niños de Eugenia”. It is founded in 2002 and has a capacity for about 50 children. The actual number of children living there can differ. The children, who are parentless, left by their parents and/or have experienced abuse, are about 3-12 years old. The children can live there till their 18th birthday. The orphanage offers psychological and social educational supply. The children go to school regularly.
