3. Description of the local project: Diese Einsatzstelle ist ein Kooperationsprojekt zwischen dem Deutschen Verein Bildung für Balanka (BiBa e. V.) und der togoischen Organisation ASTOVOT. BiBa ist ein gemeinnütziger Verein zur Unterstützung der Bildung im Dorf Balanka und im ganzen Kanton (Umgebung) von Balanka/Togo. Es handelt sich also um eine Bildungsorganisation, die seit Herbst 1999 existiert und sich mit der prekären Bildungssituation der Balanka-Region in Togo/Westafrika auseinander setzt. Einsatzort der Freiwilligen ist die 'Bibliothèque Fernanda Warawoul de Balanka' . Ziel ist es die Bibliothek kontinuierlich zum Bildungs- und Kommunikationszentrum von Balanka auszubauen. Diese inhaltliche Erweiterung geschieht durch die Schaffung und Durchführung von Bildungsangeboten in der Bibliothek: z.B. Kursangebot in Englisch, Computer, Deutsch, Hausaufgabenbetreuung, Leseübungen, sowie Organisation von kulturellen Veranstaltungen, z.B. Chorgruppe, Theatergruppe, Filmvorführungen, etc. Besonders bei der Hausaufgabenbetreuung gibt es großen Andrang, da das Gebäude mit Strom versorgt ist.
4. Field of work: Jugendarbeit, Bildung (bes. Computerunterricht und Hausaufgabenhilfe), Leseförderung, Gremienarbeit im Komitee
5. Special qualifications required: Erfahrung mit Jugend- und Bildungsarbeit, gute Computerkenntnisse, selbständige Arbeitsweise, Eigeninitiative
6. Description of the tasks of the volunteer: Die Freiwilligen sollen beim Aufbau eines Bildungs- und Kommunikationszentrums mithelfen, das in der Bibliothek integriert wurde. Die Arbeit wird zusammen mit den vier hauptamtlichen Bibliothekaren des Dorfes durchgeführt.
Aufgabenbereiche:
- Kinder- und Jugendarbeit
- Betreuung bei Hausaufgaben und Leseförderung
- Unterstützung der Bibliothekare bei PC-Kursen
- Umweltaufklärung, Hygiene und Abfallwirtschaft
- Förderung von Mädchen (z.B. Mädchenclub)
- Initiierung weiterer Bildungsangebote im Nachmittags- und Abendbereich
- Die Aufgaben können anhand des aktuellen Bedarfs des Projektes variieren und hängen von der Eigeninitiative der Freiwilligen ab.
- Vormittags besteht die Möglichkeit an der lokalen Schule im Unterricht zu assistieren.

Teach children English and German in a senior secondary school engage them also in extra-curricular activities. Volunteers need to be prepared to work in large classes. The actual tasks can vary according to the projects current needs and depend on the volunteers own initiative.

ASTOVOT-02: Teaching Assistance (Mathematics/Science)

The School is divided in a Collège (Juniors) and a Lycée (Seminors). Volunteers will assist mainly the staff of the Collège to teach the pupils. As classes are very large in Togo, the support of the volunteers shall improve learning opportunities for the pupils.

Relevant certificate in these subjects (LK Mathe/Naturwissenschaften, bzw. Französisch) is necessary, teaching-experience is highly recommended.

3. Description of the local project:
It is expected that the voluntary work will improve health in the community, advise women coming in the centre, and help to the general development of the community. The need for volunteers is meant to augment the staff in that centre. Volunteers would be expected to impact on the health delivery in the Kpalime municipality, as they take off the excessive pressure on these few staff.
4. Field of work: Health
5. Special qualifications required: High-School Certificate. Interest in health and medical issues. Medical experience highly desirable (e.g. studies, internship).
Relevant certificate in this subject (midwife) is very desired but not a requirement. Special qualifications recommended:
Be a good team-player, can fit in a new environment, love the work as a medical assistant, be able to adapt to new working conditions

The volunteer will participate to the everyday life of the centre: receive, meet and cure the patients, attend team meetings and help local staff. It is possible for the volunteer to rotate between different departments over the year (e.g. reception, laboratory, maternity ward, etc.). The actual tasks can vary according to the project's current needs and depend on the volunteer's own initiative.

ASTOVOT-11: Assistance in a Centre of medically and physically challanged children
1. Project-host: Institut Medico-Psycho-Pédagogique-ENVOL

3. Description of the local project:
The Institut Medico-Psycho-Pédagogique is a school for phisically handicapped children. The school aims to give basic education and integrate the children into the society by sending him/her to school and giving him/her professional support and training. About 25 children attend the school. They come from Kpalimé and also the surrounding area. A vegetable garden is also part of the center in which children and volunteers are learn and work together.

5. Special qualifications required:
Relevant certificate or experience in this field of work (working with children who are phisically challenged, speech therapist, Social worker, physiotherapist, specialized educator, psychologist) is helpful and highly desired/ an advantage. Everybody who recognized the particularity of those children and devoted for their case can join this plan.

6. Description of the tasks of the volunteer:
Help the teachers to guide the children in different activities. The volunteer assists the teachers with the local curricular. The volunteer can create different workshops on own initiative (modelling workshop: making of different things for drawing, games, talk, tales and songs dance and music). It is also possible to work with the children in the garden.
Another possible field of work could be networking with similar institution of the region and raising awareness in the local population for the needs of physically challenged. Also, funding for projects focusing on disability in Togo is scarce. Volunteers are encouraged to assist the center in researching funding sources and establishing (international) contacts to support the continuing work of the center. The actual tasks can vary according to the projects current needs and depend on the volunteers own initiative.
