What I liked about this week was that many kids from different backgrounds came and played together, which I think was really nice and is a great example of how children see no difference between themselves, they are just kids who want to have a great time.
“Auf die Plätze, fertig, los!” By the time the workcamp ended, this was probably the best sentence I could pronounce in German. But it was worth it to hear it – and say it – over and over again just to see the kids’ enthusiasm. That was indeed one of the best things from the workcamp, the children’s excitement. How happy they seemed to be participating in the different activities, whether it was jumping around in the bouncy castles or making figures out of clay.
We helped with the organization of some festivals and activities for kids around the city. One of them was the ‘Bärenwoche’, where kids could come and spend the day playing around. What I liked about this week was that many kids from different backgrounds came and played together, which I think was really nice and is a great example of how children see no difference between themselves, they are just kids who want to have a great time.
Another thing I really liked about the workcamp was sharing the experience with people from many different parts of the world. I got to know and experience different cultures, which was very interesting and highlighted the importance of being open-minded. Also, it was great working with the people from the ‘Spielmobil’ and the ‘Jugendförderung’, as they were always nice to us, helping out and getting us involved. This way we got to know some locals and also people from different countries who worked there too.
In general, I think this workcamp has been a great experience that I would definitely recommend. You get to know a new country as you have the weekends off and that allows for the organization of some good trips. Moreover, you get to meet people from many different cultures at the same time as you help out in a good local project, opening your mind to new ideas and helping you grow as a person.
