75 years of ijgd

The „Internationale Jugendgemeinschaftsdienste (ijgd)“ was founded in 1949 based on the idea that encounters break down prejudices and that bonds grow out of shared commitment. 75 years later, these ideas are still relevant. As an organisation, as an association, as a provider of voluntary services, we have changed, modernised and rethought ourselves again and again over the years. Our values of equality, voluntarism and self-organisation have been at the heart of our work since the early days. In this spirit, we continue to create spaces for young people today in which they have the opportunity to become aware of social conditions, act in solidarity and discover their skills.

2024 will mark our 75th anniversary. Throughout the year, we invite you to discover and experience the ijgd and get to know new facets. With 75 activities, we will show what makes us special, where we come from and what is important to us. And we say thank you: to all our pioneers and companions, to all our partners and supporters, to all our employees and, of course, to our many volunteers who get involved with the ijgd every year. In autumn, we are also holding a big anniversary celebration in Berlin.

Over the past 75 years, we have accompanied many thousands of people in their commitment. Friendships, relationships and, above all, above all life-changing experiences have been created.
